Grazie all\u2019azione di un catalizzatore neutro, l\u2019estere etilico dell\u2019acido silicico reagisce sia con l\u2019umidit\u00e0 atmosferica che con l\u2019acqua che aderisce alle pareti dei capillari. In un altro caso fu applicata una quantit\u00e0 di 2,7 l\/m<sup>2<\/sup> e si riscontr\u00f2 una profondit\u00e0 di penetrazione di 10 cm.
